Doug Reed Summer 2007/2008 Intern, 2008 Scholarship Recipient, Full-time Engineer "... I am extremely impressed at how well the management strategy works. I've noticed that all of the employees (both full-time and interns) are amazingly productive. It's almost as if we aren't at work -- rather, I believe it is more aptly stated that Centaur is akin to a tightly knit group of people striving for a common goal. The fact that it is commonplace to see bugs being submitted (and fixed) at odd parts of the night is a testament to the success of Centaur's friendly, anti-bureaucratic atmosphere..."
Anthony Yeh Summer 2007 Intern and Scholarship Recipient "... Centaur's culture is probably my favorite thing about working here. I definitely think Glenn has achieved his vision of a technical environment free of bureaucracy. Perhaps the most valuable thing I learned here was finding that there's a job in which I can leverage my love of programming without being limited to only working with software. Instead of ending up with yet another piece of software that does this or that, Centaur creates something that helps to bring reasonably priced computing to areas of the world that otherwise wouldn't be able to afford it. Now that's the kind of goal I could get behind..."
David Johnson Summer 2006/2007/2008 Intern, 2007/2008 Scholarship Recipient, Full-time Engineer "... This summer has been great. I got to try a variety of new things. I learned how to use several new pieces of software, x86 assembly, and just learned a lot in general about what they do here. Last summer I felt a little more tucked away working on a side project, but this summer I had a wider range of tasks and interacted a lot more with different people. I like that if I have a question, people are always available and willing to help. It is a great working environment, with great people. I would definitely consider working here full time after I graduate..."
Scott Petersen Summer 2006/2007 Intern and Scholarship Recipient, Full-time Engineer "... More than anything, however, I've learned that I thrive in the small, and personal work environment created here. I enjoy knowing everyone on my team and recognizing all the faces in the company. I enjoy being able to drop in on my team leader or anyone else in DV and chat about what I'm working on and what's got me stumped. And I enjoy and appreciate being trusted enough to get my work done without constant supervision..."
Marc Kellermann Summer 2009 Intern "...I really enjoyed my internship this summer. It was interesting to see how different the culture is at Centaur versus any tech company I am familiar with. The "no managers" culture works very well here, everyone is incredibly productive and they make it look easy. The fact that the other members on my team are so knowledgeable about what they do made my internship much more valuable to me. They were always more than happy to help me and offer advice on how to go about attacking a problem..."
Michael Davis Summer 2009 Intern and Scholarship Recipient "...I thoroughly enjoyed my internship this summer, the culture, work and fellow employees were all excellent. The free lunches and basketball games made me feel comfortable at work, which helps me be more productive. It's amazing how everyone gets their work done at Centaur with little management. I was impressed with the success of the cnb0b tapeout and the quick preparation for another tapeout to fix a speed path issue. I'm very grateful to everyone in the DV blue team for being helpful when I had questions. I learned things in several areas this summer: perl, ruby, some x86 assembly, mysql databases, managing server farms and writing tests for dual processor systems and SIMD instructions. Learning new things makes work fun, and I felt that I was encouraged to read and learn even beyond what applied directly to the job at hand..."
